Partnership Agreements

The City of Brno has established partnership agreements with the following cities:

 

Bratislava (Slovakia)

  • partnership since 2012

Main activities:

  • exchange of experience in the field of local government (environment, spatial planning, social policy, culture, and safety)
  • cooperation in the field of culture (exhibitions, workshops) and sports (Brno Open and Partners Cup competition in standard and Latin dances)
  • working meetings of Chief Executives/Directors of Municipality of both cities
  • cooperation between city libraries

  • partnership since 2016

Main activities:

  • Debrecen's presentation at the Regiontour tourism trade fair in Brno – twin cities’ stand
  • cooperation between schools (elementary and secondary schools)
  • reciprocal performances of cultural ensembles in both cities ("On Boards, Pavement and Grass" festival in Brno, "Flower Festival" in Debrecen)
  • sport – Debrecen's participation in the Brno Open and Partners Cup competition in standard and Latin dances; Brno Halfmarathon

  • partnership since 1966
  • amendment to partnership agreement in 1989

Main activities:

  • "Days of Polish Culture" festival in Brno, "Days of Czech Culture" festival in Poznan
  • close cooperation between city libraries in Brno and Poznan
  • cooperation between universities: Polish Studies Institute of the Masaryk University and Bohemian Studies Institute of the Adam Mickiewicz University; Brno University of Technology and Poznan University of Technology
  • active cooperation between elementary schools (children exchanges, implementation of joint projects, exchange of experience in the area of education)

  • regular presentations by Brno (city library) at Poznan's "Books for Children and Youth" fair (largest of its kind in Poland)

  • partnership since 1965
  • follow-up framework agreement signed in 1990

Main activities:

  • Rennes' presentation at the Regiontour tourism trade fair in Brno and Brno's presentation at tourism trade fair in Rennes
  • regular participation of artists from Rennes in the "Bonjour Brno" festival of French culture organized by French Alliance in Brno, cooperation of Brno cultural institutions with their partners in Rennes
  • Czech–French Public Administration Studies at the Faculty of Economics and Administration of the Masaryk University founded in 1999 by the Masaryk University and University Rennes, cooperation between secondary schools and universities
  • participation of Brno sport clubs in international tournaments in Rennes (basketball, baseball, volleyball)

Main activities:

  • Small Projects European Fund Interreg Austria – Czech Republic – joint projects in the field of culture and arts
  • St. Pölten’s participation in a videoconference on supporting tourism during the pandemic
  • joint exhibition of artists from Brno, St. Pölten and Heidenheim; Brno’s presentation at the twin cities exhibition at St. Pölten’s Town Hall; opening of an exhibition on Villa Tugendhat in St. Pölten and expert lecture at the New Design University
  • ongoing cooperation between partner schools in Brno and St. Pölten, project of primary schools and kindergartens, opening of the "Friendship Has No Borders" exhibition and student exchange within the Youth Unlimited project
  • St. Pölten's presentation at the Regiontour tourism trade fair in Brno – twin cities' stand; Brno's presentation and participation of a Brno music ensemble at the Gästival festival

There has been no direct cooperation with the Municipality of Utrecht since 2013; already established partnerships between schools and various associations have been ongoing. Representatives of both cities meet in the framework of EUROCITIES working groups (Social Affairs Forum, Environment Forum).

  • international cooperation within the WERKBUND Network of Cities with Exhibition Colonies in Europe – application for the European Heritage Label
  • participation of Viennese representatives in international conferences and workshops in Brno
  • cooperation in the fields of affordable housing, modern architecture, urban planning, heritage protection, public greenery, waste management, clean air monitoring, winter gritting, illegal hazard elimination, etc.
  • cooperation with the Czech Centre in Vienna
