The labour market in Brno provides employment in many fields. Local companies most often ask for new employees in the following areas:
- IT (software development, cybersecurity, game industry);
- the business services sector,
- mechanical engineering, or
- in research (e.g. electron microscopy, biotechnology).
Do I need a work permit to work in Brno (the Czech Republic)?
All foreigners need a work and residence permit for legal work, except for citizens of EU countries, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. Foreign citizens can ask for a so-called Employee Card, which is a type of permit for long-term residence and work in the Czech Republic. The first step is to find a job and agree with the employer, the second step is to submit an application at the embassy or at the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic.

Citizens of the European Union and Switzerland and their family members do not need any permit and have the same legal status as Czech citizens. This also applies to other countries of the European Economic Area; Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland.
